Pumpkin Carving!

Saturday, Charlie and I got up and went to the gym as I had scheduled an assesment for my workout goals and to join the gym. Very excited to get on that. Afterward, we went shopping, grabbed some lunch and then joined Charlie's co-worker/friend Dustin and his wife Amanda at their place in the city. They invited us to join their small group to carve pumpkins and have dinner. It was super fun meeting people, carving pumpkins, and drinking apple cider. Charlie carved our pumkin this year and it is the happiest pumpkin you'll ever see!:) So, we had to call it "Punkin." We stayed out pretty late with Dustin and Amanda afterwards just chatting and demonstrating the awesomeness of ballroom dancing:)!

Course, right after I talked with Erin for a bit on the way down to Chicago about her recent accident, Dustin got clipped on the back side of their Honda and jarred Charlie and I pretty good. Everyone was fine but I felt it was a little ironic that we were just talking about wrecks earlier in the afternoon.

As far as Sunday goes, Charlie summed it up well when he said on Facebook:

"A little Dunkin Robbins, Garage Sale-ing, Chili Dogg-ing, and movie-watching.....Gotta love Sundays with Tonya :)"

Off to Chicago in the Fall!

Chicago-Land

Well, we made it Chi-town or Chicago-land as they call it up here. So sorry I haven't posted earlier... I've been fighting a cold since we left Texas last week and just haven't had the energy or the internet to update you. But... here we are! We arrived at 7am Saturday morning, the 10th to 37 degree weather. The past week for the most part has been overcast, rainy, and around the 40s. I've almost got our apartment all fixed up save a few wall hangings and small boxes but Charlie will be able to help me put all those up this weekend and I'll take pics for you to see it.

Charlie has been loving working out of the office. It's quite funny watching him lay out his clothes and iron them the night before. Haha...so cute. Oh, and Charlie experienced his first Chicago Hot dog the other day! He had to call and tell me all the ingredients. Apparently, you would never use ketchup which obviously doesn't make me a chicagoan because that would be the only way I could eat one unless it has chili and cheese or something. Anyways, it has tomatoes, relish, onions, mustard, peppers, celery salt, and a dill pickle spear. Interesting huh?

Chicago T-4 days

Oh my goodness, we are moving to Chicago. We have a new 2 bedreoom apartment in case anyone comes to visit:) in Arlington Heights. If any has seen While You Were Sleeping starring Sandra Bullock you'll understand the line where Joey gives Lucy a ring of flowers and says "It's the same one they use in the winner's circle at Arlington." He's referring to horse racetrack that we will be a few miles from.

We have our massive Penske truck and car carrier rented. We'll be loading it up Friday and making the fifteen hour treck to Chicago Land. Land of the cold. Feel free to send any warm clothes because we are going to need it.

Good ole Texas times...

Something about getting outdoors and paddling down the river that makes you realize that you really did grow up in Texas. Seeing a bunch of run down shacks, tons of cattle, and going down dirt roads makes you giggle at why non-texans laugh at us. But there is something about the foliage and peace of a river that makes you thankful for who God made you and where you came from. It may not be what you did every weekend as us city folk can attest to but thankful none the same for the option to go camping and have a bonfire and eat s'mores.

Saturday, Charlie and I went to Nacogdoches to see his sister, Chelsea. We loaded up her truck with lunch and a canoe and went our merry way 25 miles to the Neches River. We dropped our Jeep off at the end spot and jumped in the truck to go to the beginning. There, we were met by a stray cat who kept us company until it's owner happened to come by and get him. So we unloaded the canoe and filled it with our cooler and paddles and pushed off on a 10 mile journey down the river. Dodging logs, trees, twigs, and branches we scurried through a interesting wake alone down the river. The weather was absolutely perfect- clear 75 degrees or so with a cool breeze the whole way.

Chelsea was the rudder in the back, Charlie was the brute force in the front, and I was the cheerleader/backup force in the middle where I attempted to not let my back and bottom hurt too long from sitting in the bottom of the canoe. About halfway down after stopping for lunch, we came to a bunch of fallen trees, probably from Ike, that covered the width of the river. All three of us had to show our gymnastic skills getting off on logs and pulling the canoe across. Chelsea and I only almost fell in twice and managed to do it without only getting wet up to our knees. Course, that made for a not so comfortable wet ride after that. But, Chelsea continued to point out different wildlife and naming plants with names we couldn't understand which was very interesting and laughing at stories when they were kids.

And, 10 miles, and 4 hours later, we made to the end and loaded the jeep up to go back to pick up Chelsea's 4wd Ford. God blessed our day. As we drove, the heavens opened up with the rain giving refreshment to all the land. Such a glorious day.

P.S. Did I mention that there was a 16 foot alligator spotted a month ago? Hmm yeah. Chelsea is pictured right with Daphne and Yoda.
